@David - yes I was really surprised. There is no granularity to the Fb integration which is a real shame.

It is a lot like these Fb Apps e.g Guardian. It is now a serious effort to share a link, or indeed to follow something shared, without taking the risk of marking it out as something that I have looked at. Sometimes I just want to read something without standing with a loud-hailer announcing that I have. For me it is a signal-to-noise thing: I share links exclusively to things that I see, process, and consider that my followers will enjoy. This is a (small) sub-set of all of the things I come across online. Fb now makes it very difficult for me not to increase the noise in my own signal.

The Fb S-1 filing is very interesting. A lot of the commentary I am seeing indicates that it gives an unprecedented insight into their priorities, thoughts and aims. At the moment I feel slightly helpless in the tide about Fb. Socially, I can't afford to be without it, but my privacy takes huge hits every day from being there. I share an awful lot online, but the crucial point so far is that that has been *my* decision. Facebook is taking that decision out of my hands.

As a PS, the most interesting thing I've read about the Facebook IPO is by Alexis Madrigal, Here's the Number That Matters in Facebook's IPO Filing. "Expect much more of this kind of thing" is the take-away.

Yep. I noticed this late last year, sending track suggestions to a friend using the internal-to-Spotify messaging system. It opened a Facebook message thread on his side, without telling me it was going to do so or that it had done so. I've tried sharing a playlist and the same thing happened. It's killed sharing from within Spotify for me.

I hadn't realised until recently how Spotify compels new subscribers to join Facebook. That's what was at the root of the problem we had. But I imagine you and Alex joined Spotify pre the Facebook lock-in … Tightening, vice-like grip, eh?

Thanks for that Michael. I've been trying all day to get a friend's Cytamobile pre-pay sim to work in my unlocked Huawei E5830 in the UK, so that I can use it when I go on holiday to Cyprus. I've tried various APNs from several sources, all without success until I came upon your blog- 'pp.internet' works fine. Cheers, Mike.

This would irritate the hell out of me if I'd upgraded to Lion - apparently Safari reloads tabs for the hell of it, just like it does on iOS (though on a mobile device, there's at least a reason to).

Thank God for this guide! It was a massive help, and much clearer than the "official" one.

Thanks again.
